From general back pain to post spinal surgery, Pilates can be utilized to improve function and decrease pain. At times, a patient presents with general de-conditioning that can be helped with the total body stabilization theory behind Pilates. The Pilates exercise method to stretch, strengthen and balance the body has proven to decrease recovery time and allow for good health and stability of the spine.

What is Pilates?

Based on the century-old teachings of Joseph Pilates, this artful discipline can improve your posture and increase flexibility and stamina. Pilates is a core stabilization exercise program.  A strong core sets the foundation for the rest of the body to be efficiently and optimally working for work, sport, and life. The Pilates-based exercise emphasizes the mind-body connection by focusing on the whole body beginning with the isolation of the core muscles and working outward.  With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself to be an important adjunct to professional physical rehabilitation.

At PTIS, there is the added benefit of being evaluated by a physical therapist so an individualized program can be made for any level of dysfunction or phase of healing.
